BIPOLAR DISORDER GROUP

"Hi-Lo", a new support group for persons with bipolar disorder, will begin meeting on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. November 13, 2008.

 

The program, led by Reverend Dan Smith of Emmanuel United Church of Christ,  is designed to be complimentary to medical and cognitive therapies; i.e., to provide a safe, caring environment for persons diagnosed with bipolar disorder to mutually support each other and learn positive life management skills.  Meetings will be held in the conference room at Emmanuel United Church of Christ.

PIED PIPER'S YOUTH CHOIR

The Pied Piper's Youth Choir under the direction of Dr. Sally Mowery  meets in Faith Hall Wednesdays and Fridays at 4:00 p. m. for auditions and rehearsals - -   The group is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 12 who want to sing in a countywide a'capella  group.  Dr. Mowery, who  holds  three music degrees,  has worked  in music with children in Florida and other states.  Since its beginning in November 2007, the Pied Piper's group has already  performed at several events.

T. O. P. S.

T.O.P.S. (Take off pounds sensibly), is  a community-wide weight-loss program open to men, women and children, with a discount if both spouses join.  Meets Mondays at 8:00 a.m. in Emmanuel’s Faith Hall.  Call Betty Puterbaugh at 385-5655 if interested in becoming a member of this group.

PARISH NURSE PROGRAM

Emmanuel has partnered with Florida Hospital Heartland Division’s Department of Parish Nursing and Community Outreach to provide optimal health through its Parish Nurse program.  Parish nurses and healthcare team members provide programs that deal with a wide variety of health-related issues in order to promote health and well-being within the framework of spiritual care.  They work with Emmanuel's care ministry to benefit people of all ages by teaching them how to develop and practice  good health in order to improve and sustain a better quality of life physically, mentally, and spiritually. 

All Parish Nurse programs at Emmanuel are open to the public.

COMPUTER CLUB

The Computer Club generally meets the last Monday of the month at 1:00 p.m.  Current membership consists of about 30 residents from Sebring, Avon Park and Lake Placid.  Programs consist of a  presentation by a computer expert followed by Q & A.  Newcomers are always welcome.  Check the calendar and newsletter for meetings.  

 

CENTRAL FLORIDA HEALTHCARE

Gives yearly flu shots, pneumonia and tetanus booster shots at the church Felloswhip Hall for members and the public.  This year's innoculations were given on October 15, 2008.  Information on next year's date will appear in future calendars and newsletters.
