There is a squirrel outside my door that I feed
peanuts to. The other day someone commented "That squirrel is
fat." I was offended at first because of the negative
connotations our culture places on weight, but later on when the
squirrel returned to my door, I tossed out some more munchies
and took a good look at it. I thought "Yeah: it's
fat. And good for it: it's well fed, healthy and
happy."
I want to use that analogy to describe what the
spiritual life of Emmanuel UCC is like. We want to be fed
through the sharing of Scriptures and a faithful preaching of
the message. We strive to be spiritually and socially healthy
individuals who feed each other through our extravagant hospitality
that is extended to all people (and we do mean ALL). We care
for one another through visits, prayers, and Parish Nurse Team and
we do various outreach to those near and far.
We are well fed folk who openly worship God with
joy. We celebrate the Gospel of Christ through the phenomenal
talents of our choir and bell choir. We take great honor in
celebrating the Lord's Supper and the sacrament of Baptism.
Recently we have expanded our worship to include the latest in
technology, making worship more
interactive.
In other words Emmanuel UCC is a well fed,
healthy, happy congregation; a loving family in which there is
always one more place at the table and there is always room for
you and anyone else who wants to visit/join Emmanuel.
Our mission statement is gloriously simple: "Sharing
God's Love with Everyone," and we embrace the UCC's claim that "No
matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are
welcome here."
